School Heritage Building used by historical society

— The Pea Ridge Historical Society leases the Heritage building from the Pea Ridge School District, and will administer its use in conjunction with the museum building, located across the street.

The Heritage building will be available as a meeting space for other groups and organizations in the community, such as civic clubs, sororities, family reunions, class reunions, etc. A moderate user fee will apply for each occasion of use.

The Heritage building is a white concrete block building across from the downtown school campus, north from City Hall. It is the oldest of the Pea Ridge school buildings still standing.

In the 1920s, it served as the school’s Agri/Shop building. By the 1940s, it had become the school cafeteria to accommodate the new school “hotlunch” program. After the opening of the new elementary building and cafeteria in 1964-1965, the white building became a classroom for HomeEconomics, History, Art and language classes.

It also provided office space for the high school counselor. Still later, it became headquarters for the school’s S.E.E.K. program.

For more information, or to make reservations to use the building, contact Jerry Nichols at 621-1621 or Gus Bradley at 685-0517.
