Visitors to the National Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, N.Y., will now have an opportunity to view a permanent file established on Clyde “Pea Ridge” Day, this town’s contribution to the baseball greats of America.

A Pea Ridge High School freshman, Randy Easterling, was named “all tournament” in the county basketball tournament where he scored 15 points for the Jr. ’Hawks. Larry Howell, a sophomore, received his all-tournament trophy for the 17 points he scored when the Sr.

’Hawks played Cedarville’s Pirates at the Greenland tournament.

A member of the Arkansas Pollution control commission spent a day in Pea Ridge making an official inspection of the Pea Ridge sewer treatment facilities. The inspection resulted from a request from a local citizen who became concerned when he found sewage from the treatment ponds running through the spillway into Otter Creek.

The interim board of directors of the Volunteer Ambulance Service of Northwest Benton County met and approved the revised bylaws of the nonprofit organization.

Wayne Ellington of Pea Ridge was named Northwest Arkansas Cattlemen’s Association 1982 Man of the Year.

About 25 people attended the first session of the First Responders course sponsored by the Volunteer Ambulance Service. Attendees viewed two introductory training films and heard details of the training course from instructor Kathy Maddox.

Cindy Van Zandt, PeaRidge, was introduced as first runner-up in the Northwest Arkansas Beef Princess contest.

20 Years Ago Thursday, Feb. 27, 1992 The TIMES of Northeast Benton County

The owner and developer of the Northwest Arkansas Speedway in Pea Ridge said the construction of the speedway was a few days behind schedule. He was optimistic, however, that the speedway would still open on schedule.

Pea Ridge Elementary and High School achieved candidacy status for accreditation by the North Central Association of Schools and Colleges.

The status was achievedfollowing the visits of several inspection teams that made recommendations for improvements, which, if accomplished, would allow accreditation of the schools by the North Central Association.

Three members of the Pea Ridge Chamber of Commerce were named to the board. Elected were: Mike Yarberry and Butch Smith, to three-year terms, and Dave Montgomery, to serve the remaining twoyear term of Donna Beaver, who resigned.

Everett Balk of Crafton, Tull Engineering told the Pea Ridge City Council about the water supply needs of the city of Pea Ridge. The report included the need for a 500, 000-gallon water tank which he said would just about meet the needs of the city.

Avoca City Park received a $1,000 grant from the Wal-Mart Foundation. Alderman Kathy Hansen said the grant money would be used toward pavilion materials or playground equipment.

Lightning may have caused a fire that gutted a house at 10201 Tommy Hawk Rd., west of Pea Ridge. Fire Chief Frank Rizzio said the lightning caused a power surge in the house, and the wiring in a back bedroom became over-energized.
