A Pea Ridge High School freshman, Randy Easterling, was named “all tournament” in the county basketball tournament. Easterling led the Jr. ’Hawks in scoring their season with a total score of 198 points for a 13.2 game average. He also won honors for his scoring at the Elkins Junior High Tournament.

In preparation for releasing 101 raccoons from Texas in 20 different locations in Benton County, members of the Pea Ridge Coon Hunters Association, as well as game and law enforcement officials, gathered to release the $725 worth of racoons, five in a group, all over the county to help bring the racoon population up.

Candidates for the fiveyear term of the Pea Ridge School Board were, in order that they appeared on the ballot, Robert H. “Bob” White Jr., Andy Buck and Fayrene Light.

A Valentine’s breakfast at Brightwater Chapel brought a big crowd as 63 people enjoyed eggs, sausage, ham, biscuits and homemade jams and jellies. The men of the church treated the ladies - even did all of the cooking and preparations.

The senior Lady Blackhawks put on a real show at Winslow, drumming the Lady Squirrels 65 - 29 in a lopsided victory that was obvious from the first quarter on. The senior boys and junior girls each lost by a point in hard-fought games. Terri Davis had a season-high 31 points.

Roy Roe of Pea Ridge announced that he would seek the Democratic nomination to the new Arkansas House of Representatives District 4 seat.

Residential and commercial construction in Pea Ridge began at a faster pace than the previous year, according to Pea Ridge building inspector Floyd Blackwell.

The chairman of the Pea Ridge Park Board said that the board eventually hopes to add two more acres to the city park.

Volunteer fire fighters spent two hours Thursday afternoon fighting a blaze at 309 S. Curtis Ave. in Pea Ridge. No one was home when the fire started;

therefore, there were no injuries to the residents.

The owner of the house was Sharon Kopejtke.

Pea Ridge residents awoke to four inches of snow covering the ground Wednesday morning.

Members of the Pea Ridge High School Bandwho made All-Region Band and Orchestra were Toni Tallman, clarinet;

Tempest Beaver, trumpet;

and Andy Stratton, percussion.

In a Tuesday, Feb. 5, meeting cut short by snowy weather, the Garfield City Council passed a resolution of intent to cover the cost for preparing abstracts and easements for the Arkansas Highway 127 water line extension from city general funds.

The water line extension would connect a transmission line being built through Garfield from Beaver Lake by the Benton/Washington Region Public Water Authority, better known as the Two Ton water project.
