Golf course to open March 1

— Big Sugar Golf Course is set to open March 1 after being closed for about two months.

A grand opening is set for March 1-March 3, with a cookout set for noon March 3 at the pro shop.

Lunch is free and there will be free give-aways for interested members.

“We feel like it was an asset to the community,” new owner Jerry Wilkerson said. “It’s a big deal for Pea Ridge.”

Wilkerson and his business partner, Jim Roe, bid on the course at an auction Nov. 9.

Dr. Larry Johnson of Jonesboro bought the course which has been closed since the sale.

Wilkerson, a retired dairy farmer, and Roe, former Pea Ridge High School basketball coach and a retired school ..., formed Sugar Hawk Enterprises LLC then leased the course from Johnson. Wilkerson said they plan to create a board to help run the course.

“We plan to have several tournaments,” Wilkerson said. He said hours will probably be from daylight to dark.

New members are being accepted during February. Wilkerson said there will not be an increase in membership dues.

Wilkerson said there were about 90 members before the sale.

Lifetime memberships will be honored. Lifetime members are homeowners on Big Sugar Golf Course.
