Wilkerson wins second in essay

Tori Wilkerson, a junior at Pea Ridge High School, won second place with a recorded essay in the Voice of Democracy essay contest. Wilkerson place second in the northwest Arkansas contest hosted by Rogers, VFW Post No. 3031.

Wilkerson entered the contest with a recorded essay that she wrote on the 2012 contest theme “Is Our Constitution Still Relevant?”

Since 1947, the Voice of Democracy has been the Veterans of Foreign Wars’ (VFW’s) premier scholarship program. Each year, more than 50,000 high school students compete for more than $2.3 million in scholarships and incentives. Students compete by writing and recording a broadcast script on an annual patriotic theme.

Joel Phillips, project chairman, presented Wilkerson with a certificate, plaque and checks from the VFW and VFW women’s auxiliary.
