In His Study

A silent Christmas

“Then they will deliver you up to tribulation and kill you, and you will be hated by all nations for My name’s sake.” Matthew 24:9

Across our nation many have succumbed to the cry for silencing the evidence of Christmas. We are fortunate to live in a region that has not yet experienced all the anti-God and anti-Christmas pressure that afflicts so much of our homeland. Yet, the tentacles of this suppression of Christmas have reached us in the replacement of “Merry Christmas” with the generic phrase “Happy Holidays.” I wrote the following poem with a sad heart as I watched what is happening to this once boldly Christian nation.

May those of us who call Christ Jesus our Savior be bold in the faith again.

A Silent Christmas by James Duncan The clamor in many public schools rang out, Soon from city hall the politicians joined in, Congress and the courts were not to be left out, For they all decried the Bible’s declaration of sin. They each demanded that the Word be removed, Ripping the Ten Commandments from the walls, Declaring the Bible to be a danger to young minds, But inviting diversity to walk the school’s halls. Believers in Christ were threatened with arrest, “Don’t speak the name of Jesus” they warned, “Don’t say Merry Christmas or hang a star,”

“Don’t let your homes with a manger be adorned.” Students wearing clothing declaring “Jesus Lives,”

Were suspended from school with threat of arrest, Workers were fired forexpressing religious views, And Pastors against congress could no longer protest.

The roar of the Militant Against Christ prevailed, Now public schools celebrate the Diversity of Winter, City Hall places large plastic cherubs in the square, While Congress and court fights are hateful and bitter. The halls of education again hang heavy with fear,

Laughter and joy replaced by gun shot and death, Heavy screening confronts all who enter city hall, And terrorists promise to extinguish our last breath. The sound of fear blankets our hallowed land, Locked doors fail and courts call victims as witness, The Babe in the manger remains hidden from sight, For each December has become A Silent Christmas. Christmas in America does sound like the above, but we must remember what Jesus will ultimately say to us: “... and you have persevered and have patience, and have labored for My name’s sake and have not become weary.” Rev. 2:3
