Hug your babies, they’re precious

What an awful, senseless, devastating tragedy in Newtown, Conn. It is beyond my imagination how anyone can commit such a horrible act. Certainly makes you hug your children a little closer and a little longer and give thanks that they are safe.

I am all the more grateful for the opportunity to drive to Oklahoma last Thursday to see my grandson’s winter program. Program was very sweet and the kids were so cute! I was able to pick him up right after the program and spend a few hours with him. We went bowling; of course, he won. Then we had a trip to Wal-Mart and dinner at the best buffet restaurant ever, his words not mine! That translates to:They have a self-serve ice cream machine! Thanks to Cinda for subbing for me at the library. She does such a good job that no one even knows I am not there.

I bought some new paperback Westerns this past week. Some of ours are all but falling apart.

I am not as familiar with writers of Westerns as I am with other writers but I am learning. We are always on the lookout for Western paperbacks and large print books - new and used in good condition.

If you have driven past the new library building in the past week I am sure you have noticed the Benton County Sheriff’s Office van out front. We have an inmate work detail installing insulation and hanging dry wall.

They have done a very good job. We can hardly wait until all the dry wall work is complete and the painting begins.

Santa’s visit to the library to read to the children was a hit. The kids had a good time. Pictures will be posted in the library. Thank you, Santa, for visiting our library and for reading to the children. We all enjoyed the visit.

There will be an open house on Thursday, Dec. 20. Drop in any time between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. to have a cup of hot cider and some appetizers or a sweet treat.

Don’t forget - the library will be closed Christmas Day and the day after. We will reopen Thursday, Dec. 27.

I wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
