’Til Next Time: Things change, but stay the same

— As I sat on the bleachers at the football Pride Night, I thought of Allen playing there in 1971, trying to learn a new school, coaches, plays and playing with kids he’d never seen before. The players dressed for the game at the high school and were bused to the field. Visiting teams were the same way. At half-time, they sat on the bus and listened to the coach tell them what all they were doing wrong.

Things change and time moves on!

This week I attended a baby shower and a welcome home bash at a Missouri camp ground for Allen’s youngest son, Jacob. He’s home from a four-year stint in the Marine Corps andPea Ridge is building a new modern football field. I can’t tell if these boys play any better or harder than those 40 years ago, but I bet they don’t have near the camaraderie that those boys had. Also, he remembers the first year he rode the bus to school. Some of the windows were broken out and you sure didn’t want to get stuck in a seat next to a broken window.

Millie Peters’ sister in Iowa has turned 90 years old, but has hit a spell ofbad health, so we added her to our prayer list. Millie is 91 and they both are going strong!

The Houseworths have returned to their new home in Texas, but we’ll all look forward to seeing them next summer.

Don’t tell anyone that I told you, but Wanda Bennett is having a birthday this week and I bet she’d love a card or a call.

Carmalita Beslin was back with us Sunday after rehab for a broken hip.

Joan Wilkerson and Zola Lynch are recuperating after surgeries.

Laura Regn (Wren) is my pen partner on Sundays and she won Grand Champion at the county fair for herknit sweater.

I was able to wiggle out of going to the Iowa State Fair again this year although, I understand the weather was great for it. I am thinking I will be going up later on.

Those two outfits that you have complimented on, all year, I guess I better return them to her closet, but we’ll see what she has new that I might like. I often end up loving what I’ve worn up there, but she tells me she’s lost weight and I’ve gained, so it may be a bust.
