Community spirit thrives in Pea Ridge

— Hammers will resound at three residences in town on Saturday, Sept. 8, as volunteers working with Rebuilding Together converge on three homes selected for renovation.

“One of the things about Pea Ridge ... the community has always been very supportive of helping others within the community. It’s a perfect example of community coming together AGAIN to help others,” said Jan Skopecek, executive director of Rebuilding Together.

There are about 150 people signed up for the Sept. 8 work day.

“Pea Ridge epitomizes the volunteer spirit,” Skopecek said. “It’s been shone over and over andover again. I think we’ve worked there nine or 10 times doing everything from putting on roofs, installing windows, building a deck and a handicap ramp and even installing emergency heating and air.”

“This is a fantastic opportunity for the citizens of Pea Ridge to come out work together and be a blessing to people in our community. They don’t have to be skilled.. just want to come out and help, we’ll have something for them to do,” said Mayor Jackie Crabtree.

To volunteer, either call City Hall or go to the web site http:// rebuildingtogethernwa.org and check in as a volunteer. Skopecek said volunteers can sit at a desk to register volunteers, provide food, swing a hammer or donate materials.
