Head Start to open in new location

— Head Start classes should begin in Pea Ridge in a new location soon, according to executive director Jerry Adair, who said the organization is negotiating with a property owner in town.

The building on Halleck Lane that formerly housed an after school day care is slated to the be site of the federally-funded preschool program. Adair said inspections and licensing still have to be completed, but he hopes all will be finished within a couple of weeks.

Head Start director Carla Clark has been promoted and will be working in the central office in Rogers.

“She is invaluable - her expertise with the parents and families is needed,” Adair said of Clark.

Head Start operated out of a modular building on the Pea Ridge school grounds for decadesand transferred to a school building downtown in 2008 through a mutual lease exchange. Those leases were declared null and void this year as Head Start officials told school officials they would be removing their building by the stadium leaving the school without a dressing room for visiting teams.

School superintendent Rick Neal said the school is purchasing a tent to providing dressing space for visiting teams.
