Pastor’s Corner: Giving praise

— If you’ve made it a habit to read any epistles, or New Testament letters, from the Christian Bible you’re probably aware that many of them close with a saying of praise or passing of peace at the end. This was a common practice in the early days of Christianity and even can be found today. Even many sermons end with a small passing of praise, grace or peace, followed by a strong “Amen.” What a great way to close out a message, giving praise to God.

Many of you might be aware that I’ve received a call to serve in another part of the state as pastor.

The time that I’ve spent in northwest Arkansas has been a true blessing, one that I will cherish for my entire life. When I first came to Pea Ridge, I had no idea how special it was, but now, having been a part of God’s work in your midst, it is fitting that I get to close with a strong song of praise. Having had the opportunity to be the founding pastor of Messiah Lutheran Church, a great place where I have witnessed God’s handiwork in action, I am blessed beyond any expectation that I could have had.

Since I’ve spent many nights awake praying for you all and this community, wondering how to best relay the life-giving message of Christ Jesus - His life, death, resurrection and reign, as foundin the Holy Scriptures - I think it is fitting to share a wonderful doxology found in those pages that I’ve turned to often while thinking of you. It is found in the small book of Jude, the last two verses.

It reads, “Now to him who is able to keep you from stumbling and to present you blameless before the presence of his glory with great joy, to the only God, our Savior, through Jesus Christ our Lord, be glory, majesty, dominion, and authority, before all time and now and forever. Amen.”

May God be praised for the wonderful work He has done, is doing and will continue to do in YOU and through YOU. I celebrate this great community and will continue to pray for you all, that God bless you as you look to Him and say “THANK YOU!” trusting that to Him belongs all glory, majesty, dominion and authority forever. AMEN.
