— 40 Years Ago Thursday, Aug. 3, 1972 Pea Ridge Graphic. The subject of the need for zoning in the city of Pea Ridge was expected to be brought back up at the next meeting of the Chamber of Commerce.

Residents of Little Flock, Avoca, Brightwater and Tuck’s Chapel, who had paid their deposits for the bringing of water to their rural homes, learned they would be obtaining water from deep wells and not from Beaver Lake.

The Pea Ridge Canning Co. began its annual canning season and was expected to be needing additional labor.

Officers for the 1972-73 Pea Ridge PTA Board were: president, Mrs. L.C. Barnett, Jr.; vice president, Mrs.

Whisenhunt; secretary, Mrs.

McCool; and treasurer, Mrs.

J.W. Jordan.

Wednesday, Aug. 4, 1982 Pea Ridge Country Times

Timpanist, arranger and amateur archeologist Richard Daye arrived to begin rehearsals as the new Pea Ridge Schools band director. Daye was responsible for the band program from sixth grade through high school.

Jan Lookadoo took first place in the women’s singles division and Jim Roe the same honor in the men’s singles in the second annual Car Wash Classic tennis tournament at Pea Ridge City Park. The event raised about $180 for tables for the park pavilion.

The Benton CountyDemocratic Picnic was held at Little Flock city park and drew a large crowd to hear Democratic party hopefuls.

Nancy (Sharp) Goebels and David R. Jones, both of Pea Ridge and both candidates for the Pea Ridge School Board, said they support the extension of a school tax that would be on the ballot in September.

Pea Ridge Democrat Tim Wood was appointed to the Benton County Quorum Court to fill the remainder of the term of the late Justice of the Peace Roy Roe of Pea Ridge.

The president of the Pea Ridge Area Ministerial Alliance, the Rev. Anthony Baker, said the alliance planned to file papers to become incorporated and tax-exempt.

A $200 reward was being offered for information that would lead to the arrest and conviction of one or more people who burglarized Pea Ridge Veterinary Clinic.

The grand lady atop Whitney Mountain, the highest point overlooking Beaver Lake, began receiving a facelift. The Lodge on Whitney Mountain had been purchased by Luther Black and family. The Black family set to work refurbishing and remodeling the 19, 000-square-foot structure after two years of vacancy and more years of neglect.

John Sainsbury and Rick Webb filed for Pea Ridge’s School Board seat No. 2.

Pea Ridge had one five-year position available due to Kerrie Kelly not seeking reelection.

The Pea Ridge Library announced top-readers in the summer reading program: Jerika Schooley read the most books in the kindergarten division, Natalie Cordoza read the most books in the first- through second-grade division, Colby Schooley read the most books in the third- through fourth-grade division and Meredith Cordoza read the most books in the fifth- through sixthgrade division.
