Art awards presented

— Four Pea Ridge elementary students were honored at a reception and awards assembly at the Fayetteville Public Library Saturday.

Kindergarteners Chastity Pippens and Luke Baker were awarded first and second place in their division with first-grader Brenden Spillman and second-grader Isabella Smith each awarded third places.

The honors were at the Northwest Arkansas Regional Art Exhibition and Competition. The annual competition includes over 200 schools in a 10-county area.

“I am very pleased with the students’ work. The Pea Ridge community has a lot to be proud of,” Dr. Roland Smith, Pea Ridge school superintendent who was on hand for the awards in Fayetteville, said.

Miss Pippens will have her winning artwork sent to Little Rock where it will be put on display at the Arkansas Studies Institute on Clinton Avenue downtown. There will be a reception there for the first place artists from all the regions across Arkansas May 12 at 1 with a special presentation at 2 awarding gold medallions to the students.

The artwork of the otherthree students will be put on display at the Gilcrease Museum of Western and American Art in Tulsa, Okla., along with 47 other student works. The art will be part of a special Pea Ridge Elementary Exhibition at the museum with the exhibit running from Memorial Day weeknd until late June.

A special reception will be held for the Pea Ridge artists at the Gilcrease on June 7.
