— House numbers were issued to Pea Ridge residents. The actual work on the project was done by Ralph Miller, a Pea Ridge resident, who after hearing the project discussed several times, volunteered to do the job.

A rural Pea Ridge homemaker, Mrs. J.T. Webb, surprised burglars as they ransacked her family’s home, and was physically hurt by the two intruders. She received two cuts on her left arm, and was hurt further when her assailants threw her to the floor as they fled upon hearing a door slam outside.

The annual Cub Scout Pinewood Derby Race was held at the Pea Ridge Elementary School cafeteria.

Winners of the race were Jerry Morrison, first place;

Gary Tillman, second place; and Greg Schumacher, third place.

Despite complaints by affected landowners, Carroll Electric Cooperative planned to begin clearing right-of-way for 6.8 miles of 69 kilovolt lines. The line was to connect the Garfield substation with a new one to be built on land bought west of Arkansas Hwy. 94 south of Pea Ridge.

New aldermen of the Seligman, Mo., City Council - Joe Pedersen, Earl Bolton, Lyle Tatman and Leonard Juel - were sworn in. Bob Burns was sworn inas collector.

Ben Withers accepted the position of president of the board of directors of the Volunteer Ambulance Service of Northeast Benton County.

Heath Clark of Pea Ridge won an Easter basket and $10 passbook savings account given away by the Pea Ridge Branch, First Federal Savings and Loan.

Pea Ridge Police Chief Sam Parker said that he resigned to avoid being fired.

Parker was the sixth police chief in six years.

Construction began on a six-unit office building just off of Arkansas Hwy. 72 inPea Ridge.

Bryan L. Hook, son of Donald and Edith Hook of Pea Ridge, enlisted in the U.S. Army’s Delayed Entry Program.

Pea Ridge High School instrumental students brought home 31 medals from the Region I solo and ensemble festival in Siloam Springs.
