Chili cook-off well attended

— More than 400 people attended the eighth annual Northeast Benton County Volunteer Fire/EMS Department Chili Cook-Off Saturday, Feb. 25, at the community room of the fire station.

There were 18 booths with chili cooks attempting to impress the judges with their tasty treats.

Bruce and Barbara Sloan, owners of End of the Road Acres, won first place in taste competition as well as booth presentation.

Marty and Missy Seamster, Beaver Lake Pest Control, won the Peoples’ Choice honor.

The event coordinator was NEBCO Fire Capt. Jeff Henry. Board members and firefighters worked hard to ensure that both cooks and tasters were happy with their experience during the 2012 event.

Judges for the finals were: Duncan Baird, David Nees, Jim Bledsoe and Bob Clinard.

With this being an election cycle year, several candidates for county-elected positions were on hand for the event, including both candidates for the BentonCounty sheriff position, a couple of candidates for Justice of the Peace, candidates for Benton County judges, plus a couple of state office holders who are well known in the area.

Funds raised will be used to support both the Fire and EMS general funds at NEBCO Fire Department in the coming year.
