VFW free flu shots

Free flu shots are available to all military veterains from 2 to 4 p.m.

Monday, Oct. 10, in the basement of Mt. Vernon Presbyterian, sponsored by Pea Ridge VFW Post 8109. The shots will be administered by Beth Nail, of the Fayetteville VA Clinic.

Please have a military ID or service number available.

D.A.S.H. to Remember

The D.A.S.H. to Remember 5K run/walk is set for 8 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 22, at the Ryan Mondy Memorial teeball field, on Weston Street.

Entry fees are $15 for 1 mile for children 12 and under, $20 for 5K all ages and 1 mile for adults, if postmarked by Oct. 15, and $25 for 5K, if postmarked after Oct. 15.

Entry forms are available at Rush Running, Bentonville, or online at www.mondyfamily.com. Early registration participants receive a T-shirt and the first 100 registrations receive a goody bag.

Proceeds benefit the Ryan Mondy D.A.S.H. Memorial Scholarship Endowment, a special scholarship through the Arkansas Community Foundation in Little Rock.

The scholarship is designated to assist graduating seniors whose lives have been affected by cancer.

Fall train ride planned

SELIGMAN, Mo. - The fall train ride from Seligman to Van Buren, Ark., will be Sunday, Oct. 9. Arkansas and Missouri Railroad and Seligman Chamber of Commerce have this trip twice a year.

It will be Arts and Crafts days in Van Buren. The train will leave Seligman about 7 a.m. and arrive in Van Buren about 11 a.m. It will return to Seligman, Mo., about 6:30 p.m. Snacks will be served.

Passengers will spend about three hours in Van Buren. Tickets are $80, first class and caboose, $72 for senior 65 and over, $35 for children 12-4, 3 and under is free; $60 for vintage cars, $54 for senior, $35 for children 12-4.

Cave Springs’ Days

CAVE SPRINGS - Starting at 5 p.m. Friday, Sept. 30, the city of Cave Springs will be hosting Cave Springs’ Days. The theme is Home Sweet Home. There will be a chicken dinner with all the fixings and musical entertainment from 5-8:30 p.m. Also, Saturday, Oct. 1 there will be several more things happening, including: 6-10 a.m. Fireman’s Breakfast; 8 a.m. 5K run;

11 a.m. parade; school reunion; arts and crafts; car show, featuring a car for the Susan G. Komen Foundation; golf tournament; dog show and much, much more.

There will be food available for lunch and music will be provided Saturday evening.

18th Annual NEBCO Turkey Shoot

GARFIELD - The 18th annual NEBCO Fire/EMS Turkey Shoot and Rib Cookoff is set Saturday, Oct. 1, at the 18th Annual NEBCO Fire and EMS Turkey Shoot and Rib Cook-Off.

Event site is in and around NEBCO Fire Station #1 and Community Center, located at U.S. Hwy. 62 and S. Wimpy Jones Road, in Garfield.

Activities include:

◊9 a.m. - Turkey Shoot

◊10 a.m. - 3 p.m. - Bingo.

◊11 a.m. - 2 p.m. - Lunch of pork ribs, pulled pork, chicken, sides and a drink.

Adults $9 and children 10 and under $5. There will also be other food concessions on-site throughout the day.

Kid’s games this year include the Daisy BB Gun range, rock climbing wall, bouncy house, gyro ball and face painting. There’s an all-day raffle with great prizes including a 46-inch LCD TV, plus an expanded silent auction.

“Wiener Takes All”

BELLA VISTA - The Bella Vista Animal Shelter’s 5th Annual “Wiener Takes All” Dachshund Races and Championship Event will be Saturday, Oct. 1, from 11 a.m. - 2 p.m.

The event will take place at the Loch Lomond Recreation Complex, off of Glasgow Road in Bella Vista. Dogs must be registered to race. A rain date of Oct. 8 has been selected.

Admission is free to the public. Spectators are encouraged to bring lawn chairs. Lunch will be available for purchase, with allproceeds benefiting the animal shelter.

Attendees should bring their dogs for a special all-breeds dog race and costume contest.

Free flu shots

SPRINGDALE - Starting at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 11, The VFW Post and Ladies Auxiliary 2925, along with the VA Hospital, will be giving free flu shots to veterans at their post, located at 1006 N. Thompson, Springdale. All military veterans are invited.
