Fee free day

National Public Lands Day is Saturday, Sept. 24. To celebrate, the National Park Service has waived entrance fees for the day to provide a great opportunity for visitors to connect with the outdoors and with National Parks.

Pea Ridge National Military Park preserves the site of and commemorates the March 1862 Civil War battle that helped Union forces gain control of Missouri.

The park is located east of Pea Ridge, north of Rogers, on U.S. Highway 62.

Artist featured

BELLA VISTA - The Bella Vista Decorative Artists are hosting nationally known artist, Arlene Linton,for two days of instructive painting on Nov. 11-12. Linton specializes in painting linen and lace work. She will teach two separate patterns of lace work at Wishing Springs for the two days. The cost for members is $25 a day, and $35 a day for non-members. The class is limited to 25 participants and a spot is not assured until paid.

Golf course winter maintenance closings

BELLA VISTA - Each winter, the Bella Vista Village Property Owners Association closes its courses from December through March for winter maintenance.

The golf course closing schedule for the 2011/2012 winter season is:

Winter maintenance includes routine work, such as tree trimming and removal, spraying the dormant turf, bunker work and general course maintenance. Also, any larger projects that have been planned will begin at this time.

AREA EVENTSMud Day & Poker Run

SELIGMAN, Mo. - All 4x4 Mud Day and Poker run will be held Saturday, Sept. 24, in Seligman, Mo., at Ruby’s Event Park sponsored by the Seligman Chamber of Commerce and the 4x4 Committee. Participants can play in the mud obstacle course and go on the poker run.

There will be door prizes for both events.

Gates open at 11 a.m. for mud run, Poker Run starts at 7 p.m. for a night ride.

The fee is $20, which covers truck and driver, $5 and one can of food for local food pantry for riders and spectators, and $10 for poker run, unlimited hands win. For information, call 417-662-3611.

NEBCO Turkey Shoot

GARFIELD - The 18th annual NEBCO Fire/EMS Turkey Shoot and Rib Cookoff is set Saturday, Oct. 1,in and around NEBCO Fire Station No. 1 and Community Center, U.S. Hwy. 62 and S. Wimpy Jones Road, Garfield.

Activities include: 9 a.m. Turkey Shoot; 10 a.m.

  • 3 p.m. bingo; and 11 a.m.

  • 2 p.m. lunch of pork ribs, pulled pork, chicken, sides and a drink. Lunch is $9 for adults and $5 for children 10 and under.

Games this year include the Daisy BB gun range, rock climbing wall, bouncy house, gyro ball and face painting. There’s an allday raffle with great prizes including a 46-inch LCD TV, plus an expanded silent auction.
