Pea Ridge school students were given a one-day holiday to attend the Benton County Fair in Bentonville.

Brothers Joe and Jack Lasater were given an award for their Phillips 66 station being in business for 25 years. At the time more than 90 percent of new businesses in Pea Ridge floundered within their first year.

About 100 people gathered on the Little Flock Church grounds for an ice cream social.

The City Council approved giving full-time city employees a two-week paid vacation and to blacktop Harris Street from Arkansas Highway 94 east as far as the remainder of the citymoney holds out.

Gateway Town Council voted not to pay a bill from Crafton & Tull Associates because the water system which the company designed was not installed.

Some 230 postal patrons in northeast Benton County and along the southern border of Missouri will have new addresses, according to postmasters Stanley Buttry, Pea Ridge, and Gary Blackburn, Garfield, saying that mail delivery lines conform to state line boundaries. Pea Ridge will lose some 120 patrons to Pineville, Mo., and Seligman, Mo., offices.

Garfield was scheduled to lose 78 to Seligman and pickup 33 from Seligman who live in Arkansas.

The city of Garfield decided to replace a deteriorating water line along Jones Road. Mayor Wanda Mahurin told the council that contractors failed to put sand or gravel as a bedding, resulting in four major leaks in the system.

The Arkansas highway Department was expected o complete its work to improve safety on a curve on Arkansas Highway 94 at the southern limits of Pea Ridge by the end of net week, said area foreman Junior Carter.

The curve is at the base of the hill at the southern approach to town. Accidents,poor visibility and speeding on the curve prompted Police Chief Sam Holcomb to ask for the improvement.

The Pea Ridge School Board approved a $6.3 million budget, an increase of $487,000 over the previous last year. School Board president Randy Easterling said the budget was tight but “will get us through the year.”

The city of Pea Ridge accepted a bid for $60,00 from Mid-America Environmental Contractors to clean the sludge from the city’s sewer collection ponds. Water/ sewer superintendent Robert Button said engineers said the company met specifications.
