Special events

◊34th Ozark Quilt Fair - Entries are still being accepted for the 34th Ozark Quilt Fair, 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept.10, at the Shiloh Museum of Ozark History.

Quilters and quilt lovers are invited to display new and antique quilts for show and sale on the museum grounds.

Cash prize Viewer’s Choice awards will be given for first, second and third place winners in both new and antique quilt categories. Musical entertainment will be provided by old-time string band Shout Lulu from 10 a.m.

-1 p.m.

The quilt fair is co-sponsored by the First Security Bank, Legacy Bank and the Shiloh Museum Board of Trustees. The entry deadline is Wednesday, Sept. 7.

◊Latino Daily Life in northwest Arkansas - A program entitled “Vinetas Latinas: Daily Life in Northwest Arkansas,” will be presented from 1-3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 17. The program will feature three panels of local Latino/a citizens, each talking about how they spend their leisure time (tempo libre), Sunday (Domingo) and a day at work (un dia de trabajo).

◊The Huntsville Massacre - Dr. Kevin Hatfield will discuss “The Huntsville Massacre,” at noon Wednesday, Sept. 21. Hatfield, who is currently serving as the mayor of Huntsville, will share his research of the events surrounding the January 10, 1863 execution of eight Madison County men, by Union soldiers.

◊Benefit Supper for Museum - Old-fashioned beans and cornbread supper Friday, Sept.30, at the museum. Twoseatings are offered: 4:45 p.m. and 6 p.m. Tickets are $8, which includes beans, cornbread, cobbler and drink. Seating is limited and tickets must be purchased in advance. Supper guests will have the opportunity to view special displays by local historical organizations, which meet at the museum, and to bid on gift baskets offered in a silent auction. The event is a fundraiser to help support the museum’s programs, exhibits and building maintenance. The Shiloh Museum is located at the corner of Johnson and Main in downtown Springdale.

◊Historic Springdale Group - 5:30 - 6:30 p.m.

◊Writing Group - 10 a.m.

Monday, Sept.12 and Monday, Sept. 26, will meet at in the General Store building at the Shiloh Museum of Ozark History. LifeWriters is a group for people interested in writing the stories of their own lives or those of family and friends. For information, call June Jefferson at 790-2588.

◊Railway Society - 7 p.m.

Thursday, Sept. 15, The Boston Mountain Chapter of the National Railway Historical Society will meet at in the General Store building. For information, call 750-8165.

◊Photo Identification Group - 10 a.m. - 1 p.m.

Saturday, Sept. 17, the Photo Identification Group will meet at the museum to continue identifying people, places and events in Northwest Arkansas photos takenover the last 40 years.

◊Storytellers Group - 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 17, The Tellers of Tales storytelling group will meet at at the museum. All tellers and listeners are invited.

◊Civil War Roundtable - 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 22, the Northwest Arkansas Civil War Roundtable will meet in the General Store building,

◊Wireless Society to Meet - 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 24, in the General Store building.
