40 Years Ago Sept. 9, 1971 Pea Ridge Graphic

The Chamber of Commerce sponsored a teachers appreciation breakfast; it was attended by about 75 people. John Knox, chamber president, served as the master of ceremonies.

Little Flock had an unofficial population of 403 following an unofficial census, according to Mayor Evered Pointer.

The young people of Pea Ridge donated $300 of their dormant Youth Center fund to the Jerry Lewis Telethon for Muscular Dystroph on Monday, Sept. 6.

Four Pea Ridge High School students were not injured in a one-car accident on Arkansas Highway 94, just north of Rogers. Rogers Police investigated and no charges were made. The Ford Galaxie was heavily damaged.

30 Years Ago Sept. 9, 1981 Pea Ridge Country Times

The law office of Kendall and Schrantz in Pea Ridge closed its doors at 5 p.m.

Tuesday, Sept. 8. Doug Schrantz explained that Mrs. Val Radke was retiring and the firm was left without a staff in the Pea Ridge office.

In a special meeting, the Little Flock City Council voted against inclusion in the proposed subordinate service district for ambulance service suggested by the county and the city of Rogers.

Avoca’s Town Council heard routine business reports, considered road conditions and repairs, voted to continue support of the solid waste program and hear a request for $4,000 in funding from the Volunteer Fire Department.

Fred Sutton, fullback, linebacker, and Greg Fuller, fullback, linebacker, were featured in the Blackhawk Salute.

David Scism was featured on the front page as the newcity deputy marshal.

20 Years Ago Sept. 5, 1991 The TIMES of Northeast Benton County

A Christian Youth Center opened in what was formerly The Fun Factory across from the First Baptist Church. Organizer Sheila Musteen said that the interdenominational effort to establish the nondenominational Pea Ridge Christian Youth Center had received a groundswell of support.

The center was operated by parents and other adults volunteers. Each church was asked to pledge a monthly support of $30 to guarantee rent and insurance.

Frank and Norma Farrer began construction on the first of several commercial ventures in Pea Ridge. It was a 12-unit mini-storage building off of Arkansas Highway 72 just west of Arkansas Highway 94. The plans were to eventually add two more or the storage buildings which measured 20 feet by 30 feet.

One hundred eight family and friends attended a surprise part for Herbert Mills’ 70th birthday.

10 Years Ago Sept. 5, 2001 The TIMES of Northeast Benton County

Since the age of 6, William McMinn, 46, has been collecting rocks. His shop has specimens from all over the world. Many rockes he had brought back from excursions into the fields of the Ozarks and Ouachita Mountains and western deserts. The rocks from other countries he bought at shows throughout the country. He also hosted classes of school children from area schools on educational field trips. His shopped featured over 3,000 square feet of displays.

The Pea Ridge Junior Blackhawks opened the 2001 junior high football schedule impressively by downing Decatur 30-0. Pea Ridge High School beat Lincoln 32-6.
