New Meadowbrook Club

The New Meadowbrook Club of Garfield met on Oct.

12, at Autumn Place in Pea Ridge for their regular meeting, as one of their members, Eula Anderson, is a resident there.

President Selena Williams opened the meeting and introduced the guests, Florence Poe and Geraldine Jump. Members then recited the Pledge of Allegiance and the devotions were given by Jean Landauer with her reading from Guideposts of One Hundred and One Moments of Hope! She also read the Cheering of the Wolverines, and all were reminded to “Remember Whose you Are!”

November’s devotions will be given by Betty Phillips.

Minutes of the last meeting were read and approved by secretary Ione Kauffeld and 10 members answered roll call by stating an unforgettable costume that they at one time wore.

Reports were given of the volunteering at the Garfield School, three of the members volunteer at the school on Thursday mornings. Also report of the NEBCO Turkey Shoot which was held on Oct. 1, members worked on the food line and many took pies which were served with the meal. Four hundred lunches were served that day.

As God’s Pantry in Garfield is one of the club’s organizations to be supported this year, a report was given that there is a need of kids’ coats and clothing and for the next meeting members are to bring food for Thanksgiving to be donated. At this meeting, which is the club’s workday, the Christmas project for Autumn Place will be finished.

President Selena announced that this is going to be the 100th anniversary of the Extension Clubs of the State, so plans are being made for activities there. The preemie and angel hats being made are to be taken to the Benton County Extension Office to be distributed. It was also announced that members can donate clothing of sweat suits, underwear and shoes to be given to the Garfield Elementary School.

The Fall Council meeting for the county is to be held on Nov. 18, at the Bella Vista Community Church. Registration is at 9:30 a.m. and the meeting is 10 a.m. It is a pot luck luncheon and the theme will be “Then and Now,” which will kick off the 100th anniversary at that time.

Each member is to wear an apron, and there will also be an Apron Contest. Also, clubs are to take items to be entered into the silent auction to be held that day.

Guest Florence Poe displayed her recipe book, she was a delightful guest and stated that she started cooking at age 7, has been married for 62 years and has cooked all those years. She has just published her second cook book of the Poe Heritage.

Many of the members purchased her recipe book.

A short meeting will be held in November at the Garfield First Baptist Church, and then members plan to enjoy a lunch at Mimi’s.

Roxie Geddie informed members of valuable information about credit cards and copies of the information were given to members.

Three members celebrated birthdays, Betty Carter, Roxie Geddie and Lea Ann Schalk, each received a birthday giftand members sang “Happy Birthday.”

Betty Phillips announced that on Nov. 2, they will be having their annual turkey dinner at the Senior Center in Seligman, Mo.

Coffee was served to members and guests by the staff at Autumn Place and cookies were provided by Betty Phillips, after which the meeting was adjourned by all reciting the Extension Homemaker’s Creed.
