Library Notes

Library board is grateful for many volunteers

— What a wonderful weekend for Pea Ridge - the homecoming parade on Friday afternoon, the football game on Friday night (Go Black Hawks), the Mule Jump on Saturday and, of course, the library book sale on Friday evening and all day Saturday. Many of you managed to make it to all three events and I hope you enjoyed them all. Several board members and volunteers were kept busy selling the books and magazines you so generously donated.

I think I speak for all of us when I say it was tiring but such a good feeling knowing we were not only helping the library but that we were able to provide some good reading material for a number of people.

This sale provided an opportunity for me to meet and talk with a number of people from the community. I even got to spend some time chatting with a librarian from Georgia who purchased books to take back to his library.

Thanks to everyone who helped in any way with our sale. We appreciate your support of the library and our book sales. You all make the Pea Ridge Community Library what it is and the members of the Library Board and I are honored to be a part of it.

There are too many people to thank to list them all in this column but I hope to get something on the web site very soon.

Another fun event is coming up on Saturday, Oct. 15. The Bentonville Public Library is hosting an event for children - Rexy Remembers. This event is being held by both the Bentonville Public Library and the Children’s Museum of Northwest Arkansas.

Rexy Remembers is a touch, see and do day that will encourage children of all ages to enjoy the history of Arkansas through hands-on science, art and cultural activities. Children will see demonstrations of blacksmithing, spinning and other pioneer skills and crafts, play with old fashioned toys, use hand toolsto create walking sticks, tap their toes to folk music while constructing their own harmonicas, dig for “diamonds” and have fun with fabric in the quilting corner.

This sounds like great fun for kids of all ages, so if you can, please take your children. For more information or to volunteer to help out that day for an hour or so contact the Bentonville library at 271-6816 or log on to http://www.bentonvillelibrary.org.

With a very successful sale behind us I can now focus on getting some new releases on the shelves.

The library lost a very dear friend and volunteer this week, Alice Henson.

Our condolences to her family.
