Community dinner slated

GARFIELD - Garfield Elementary will host a community dinner benefiting the “Bell Tower Project.”

Garfield Elementary has a rich, long-standing heritage in the community where it has educated children in some capacity for 126 years. The faculty and staff members have a strong commitment to Garfield families and community members and strive to reach out and support all, and provide an environment where all belong, learn and succeed.

Garfield School has been in operation since 1885. The current campus has been in existence since 1888. For 123 years children have been signaled to class by the mighty ring of a 500-pound school bell. Currently, the bell is mounted to the cement ground at the west entrance. School officials would like to honor the school with the construction of a bell tower in order to give the bell a more deserved, prominent location in the front of the main building.

The Garfield Elementary PTO, along with faculty and staff members, will host a community Holiday Dinner benefiting the Bell Tower Project.

Tickets can be purchased prior to the event from the Garfield Elementary Office or PTO members.

The dinner is 6-8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 9, in the Garfield Elementary School gym. Tickets are $8 for adults and $4 for children 12 and younger. For information or to purchase tickets, call 359-3263.
