The Owen W. Wood family of Pea Ridge was the winner of the Benton County competition in the Farmers Home Administration’s second annual contest to select an “Arkansas Farm Family of the Year.”

The 11-member Pea Ridge High School band presented a concert under the direction of band master Jack Trent, raising a love offering of $45.05 for band needs.

Marline Dye, a Garfield elementary student and daughter of Mr. and Mrs.

Carroll Dye, was in the hospital after injuring her leg in a bicycle accident.

A Maytag automatic washer was listed for sale in the classifieds for $40.

Pea Ridge Board of Education approved continuing the tax rate of 62 mills to fund the school’s budget of $1,125,000 for the school year 1983-84.

The budget and the 62 mills tax rate had been the same since 1972.

Some 30 musicians from all over the United States were scheduled to perform in Pea Ridge, when the John Brown University Cathedral Choir presented the TIMES’ third annual Candlelight Christmas Concert. The concert is the TIMES’ Christmas gift to friends.

The Blackhawks Old Timers’ football game ended in a 6-6 tie and raised $313 for the Pea Ridge schools athletic department. A large crowd attended the game despite the bitter cold which kept most of them inside their warm cars while the players suffered on the field.

The athletic department planned to use part of the money for a video-tapecamera to be used for taping games so coaches and player could analyze them. The camera would also be available to the rest of the school.

20 Years Ago Nov. 21, 1991 The TIMES of Northeast Benton County

The Rev. Al Fowler was named full-time pastor of First Baptist Church.

He served for several months as interim pastor following the resignation of the Rev. Charles Womack.

A water pipe burst in the upstairs kitchen causing damage in the Extension Home building but club members worked to repair the damage.

The Battlefield 4-HClub met with 18 members present.

The Southwest I Pee Wee girls finished fourth out of 10 in the Triway Tournament at Fairview.

Construction on the Jacket bridge was delayed after the McDonald County, Mo., Commission tabled the decision on the builder for the new bridge. The bids were about $36,000 above the estimated cost. 10 Years Ago Nov. 21, 2001 The TIMES of Northeast Benton County

For the first time in its history, the Avoca Town Council held a meeting in its own building Tuesday, Nov. 13. Although not completely finishedor furnished, the council members met in the new Town Hall.

The author of “The Search for Haley,” Tim Ernst, said the book was a tear jerker. The book chronicles the search for 6-year-old Haley Zega, granddaughter of Jay and Joyce Hale.

The Family, Careers, Community and Leadership Association (FCCLA) at Pea Ridge High School held bake sales, made bracelets to sell.

The group presented $420 to Red Cross representative Bud Troutner.

Steven Fuller, son of Brenda and Jeff Fuller, of Pea Ridge, showed a black bear he killed at White Rock Nov. 10.
