Ridge Rockers held Rumble

The Pea Ridge Ridge Rockers Square Dance Club hosted the sixth Annual “Rumble” on Oct. 29. It was a roaring success. About 200 square dancers from Arkansas, Missouri and Oklahoma, representing 18 different square dance clubs, attended this dance called by national callers Hunter Keller and Justin Russell. Also in attendance were the Missouri Federation of Square Dance Board, the Northeast Oklahoma Square Dance Board, the Committee for the 63rd National Square Dance Convention of 2014 and the District of Missouri Square Dance president. A four-foot long cake made by Ruth Baker of Pea Ridge and her assistance Betty Bakley was a highlight of the meal.

Club members thank the caller and event organizer Grant Roth for a wonderful time.

Only one Ridge Rockers scheduled dance remains in November, the Thanksgiving dance at 7:30 p.m.

Friday, Nov. 11, at the regular dance location. Lessons, which started Sept. 27, are ongoing every Tuesday, at 7:30 p.m. at the Pea Ridge Intermediate School cafeteria.

Interested persons are welcome to visit the lessons or the dance, free of charge, to investigate.

Granny’s Quilts of Love

Granny’s Quilts of Love met Oct. 18, at Mt. Vernon Presbyterian Church. There were 22 members and one guest, Shirley Patton Wanken, present.

Thelma Hall opened with a prayer and Mary Margaret Webb conducted the meeting which included an appreciation brunch for all the work the Granny’s do. Thank you to Marge Crowder and Mary Margaret for putting the brunch together.

The Christmas Brunch hosted by the Bella Vista Granny’s will be Thursday, Dec. 1, at Bella Vista Lutheran Church.

The Granny’s had a cutting meeting on Nov. 1 and more than 400 quilt kits were cut.

Granny’s club members gave a special tribute to Alice Henson, one of the Granny’s members. Henson passed away on Oct. 8.

She was a special lady with many talents. Along with her two daughters, Trish and Judy, Mrs. Henson used to drive to Batesville to purchase the material for the quilts, then store all the material in her home, cut all the material by herself, matching the top fabric along with the back fabric, neatly folding them and bring them to the cutting meeting for the ladies to cut the batting for the quilts. Also, every summer she went to Bentonville, Rogers and other locations to pick up donations from vendors for our auction in August. She did all of this and more for eight years.

She will truly be missed, but not forgotten. Prayers go to her daughters, Trish and Judy and their families.

The next meeting will be at 9:30 a.m. Nov. 15 at Mt. Vernon Presbyterian Church, 1300 N. Davis St., Pea Ridge.

As always, meetings are open to the public and everyone is invited to attend.

President Selena Williams opened the meeting with all reciting the pledge of allegiance to the flag. Betty Phillips gave the devotions reading a story, “The Problem,” that mind, heart and attitude can all be controlled with the help of God. She also read Philippians 2-5, and “Step by Step with Him,” by Harriet Baldwin. Roxie Geddie will give the devotions in January.

Eight members answered roll call with their favorite Thanksgiving memory and the minutes were read.

Rheta Van Doren announced that a turkey dinner will be served to the community at the Brightwater Church at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, Nov.17.

Community project reports were discussed and God’s Pantry will be giving out food for the Thanksgiving Holiday on Tuesday, Nov. 22. They will be moving at the end of November into another facility which is a building across from the NEBCO Fire Department.

Decisions were then made for planning the meal and party to be held on Dec. 14 with the residents at the assistant living building at Autumn Place, Pea Ridge.

Turkey and dressing will be served by Autumn Place and all the rest of the meal will be furnished by club members. The program is planned by Jean Landauer.

A potluck luncheon will be served that day. Ms. Williams is baking a special cake for the event.
