FFA, Isgrigg win in judging at state fair

— Jennifer Isgrigg, a Pea Ridge High School sophomore, won third high individual in livestock judging at the Arkansas/Oklahoma State Fair in a field of 250 competitors.

Isgrigg, the vice president of PRHS Future Farmers of America, is the daughter of Calvin and Leah Isgrigg.

The PRHS FFA earned fifth place out of 63 schools entered in Livestock judging. Perry Mason, PRHS agriculture teacher and FFA advisor, said the team was the second best Arkansas team entered.

“For this early in the year, we were exceptionally proud of that accomplishment,” Mason said.

“Jennifer Isgrigg is a kid who could make any teacher look good,” Mason said. “She was a star greenhand, an outstanding firstyear student.”

The trip was a great learning experience for the students, he said. “This whole thing was exploratory. It was a very pleasant surprise to win,” Mason said.

Pea Ridge had at least one team in each contest available in the Career Development Contests whichincluded livestock, dairy cattle, poultry, landscape design and agronomy.

The team which won was comprised of Isgrigg, Kelsie Galyen, Tyler Hamilton and Miles Hamilton.

Mason, a native of Mc-Donald County, Mo., hasbeen in education 27 years, 22 of which he has spent at PRHS.
