40 Years Ago May 20, 1971

It was the 40th reunion of Pea Ridge High School graduating class of 1931.

A brother and sister, Lonnie and Geraldine Glasscock, of Pea Ridge, won KODE’s Teen Hop Dance contest in Joplin, Mo.

Mrs. James Hale, of Pea Ridge, and Mrs. John Terry, of Garfield, were winners in the Poultry Cooking Contest at the Northwest Arkansas Poultry Festival.

The two women won a trip to the State Poultry Festival in Hot Springs.

30 Years Ago May 20, 1981 The Pea Ridge Country Times

Honor diplomas were won by these Pea Ridge High School graduates: Bonnie Sutton, Natalie Hardin, Mary Mariano, Kelly Meeker, Vicki Parrish, Sharon Snow and Sheryl Tucker.

A total of 33 seniors graduated from the class of 1981.

Airman Jimmy D. Henson, son of Mr. and Mrs.

Don Henson, graduated from the U.S. Air Force aircraft maintenance specialist course at Chanute Air Force Base, Ill. Henson was a 1978 graduate of Pea Ridge High School.

Pea Ridge High School’s football coach for the last six years, Ray Hoback, accepted a position coaching football and teaching driver education in Ava, Mo.

20 Years Ago May 16, 1991 The TIMES of Northeast Benton County

Negel Hall, Pea Ridge’s Mule Jump aficionado,trained a Brahma bull to jump and displayed the bull’s ability during the lunch break of the Mule Jump. The public had an opportunity to watch something even more unusual than the mules jumping.

The Times of Northeast Benton County moved its location for the first time its 26 years of publication.

They moved into what used to be the First Federal Building on S. Curtis Avenue. The other tenant in the building was Mitchell Real Estate.

Teachers in the Pea Ridge School District got a salary increase. The average teacher raise was $2,732, leaving the average teacher salary at $22,619.

10 Years Ago May 16, 2001 The TIMES of Northeast Benton County

Racer and stunt rider Jeremy Van Schoonhoven, 18, advised students at Garfield Elementary on bicycle safety and demonstrated some stunts.

Pea Ridge freshman Dianne Miller won the AA State 3200-meter Run Championship in Hot Springs, qualifying her to compete in the Arkansas Feet of Champions in Conway. Miller raced out to a near half-lap lead early in the race before cruising to a win with a 12:36 effort. The Lady ’Hawk was never challenged in the race, lapping half of the runners in the field.

Sixty-one seniors graduated from the class of 2001.

Charter members attending the Lost Bridge Village Security Patrol 20th anniversary breakfast were Hal and Dot Camp, Alyce Singer, Carolyn Hewett and Harold Moser.

Mr. and Mrs. Omar Kauffeld of Garfield celebrated their 10th wedding anniversary with a reception held at the old Coal Gap School.

Michael Easterling was one of 45 honorees at a special ceremonial banquet at the Riverfront Hilton in North Little Rock.

Easterling was awarded a scholarship worth $1,000 to be used at a college of his choice.
