Sign ordinance goes to council

Wednesday, May 11, 2011

— It’s yard sale time of year;

beware of placing signs just anywhere in city limits.

The Pea Ridge Planning Commission approved the recommendation of an amended sign ordinance at the regular meeting May 3.

According to the amended ordinance, once approved by the city council, yard sale signs must be placed behind the sidewalk; on streets with no sidewalks, the signs must be 10 feet from the pavement.

Addresses are required on yard sale signs.

City employees will have the authority to remove signs and issue a citation for those not in compliance.

The board also discussed signpermits, illuminated signs, obsolete and damaged signs and signs on buildings.

The board was in favor of recommending the amendments to city council for review at the next council meeting, set for 7 p.m. May 17.

In other business, the group approved a home occupation permit for Marvin Shepard at 480 Willis Lane.
