Ernestine ‘Teena’ E. Hooker Carpenter

Ernestine “Teena” E. Hooker Carpenter, 94, of Fayetteville, died May 2.

She was born in Seligman, Mo., to Ernest and Ruth McClain Hooker.

Carpenter graduated from Seligman High School and from Draughn’s Business College in Springfield, Mo. She was employed by the Works Progress Administration (WPA) at Green County Courthouse, of Springfield. She served her country during WWII as secretary to the contracting officer for the Army Air Corps and Northern American Bomber Plant in Kansas City, Mo., which made B-25 Mitchell bombers.

Carpenter married James W. Carpenter on Dec. 23, 1943, in Kansas City. Jim returned from WWII in Oct.

1945, and in 1948, Teena, Jim, and their infant son, David, moved from Kansas City to Springdale. There they owned and operated Jim’s Radio.

She attended First United Methodist Church of Springdale, where she sang in the choir for 32 years.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Fern Rubow and Betty Walker; and one brother, Paul Hooker.

Survivors include her husband, Jim, of 67 years;

two sons, David J. Carpenter and wife, Vonita, and Kendal H. Carpenter, both of Springdale; one granddaughter, Shannon Carpenter of Springdale;

one grandson, Bradley Carpenter of Fayetteville; one brother-in-law, Bill Walker, of Springdale; and one sister-in-law, Kathy Hooker Barnard, of Kansas City.

A memorial service was held at 2:30 p.m. Friday,May 6, at Butterfield Trail Village of Fayetteville, with Rev. Judy Van Hoose officiating.

Kent Erwin Hughes

Kent Erwin Hughes, 59, of Pea Ridge, died May 7, in Bentonville. He was born February 9, 1952, in Conway to J Lynn and Dora Hughes.

He graduated from high school in Ft. Smith and received a mechanical engineering degree from the University of Arkansas. He was employed by Wal-Mart. Hughes loved spending time with his family and playing with his grandchildren. He was a BBQ master, a genius with a tool box and always readywith a joke.

He was preceded in death by his mother.

Survivors include his father, J Lynn Hughes of Ft. Smith; a sister and brotherin-law, Janice and Dennis Dorsey of Broken Arrow, Okla.; his mate of 25 years,Beverly Jones of Pea Ridge, as well as children Michael and Laura Jones of Garfield, and Jennifer Jones of Bella Vista; beloved grandchildren, Hardy and Katie Jones of Garfield.

Funeral is set for 11 a.m.

Wednesday, May 11, at Sisco Funeral Home Chapel in Pea Ridge with Rev. Rick Booyer officiating. Burial will be at Pea Ridge Cemetery.

No visitation.

Linda Cleo Kirkland

Linda Cleo Kirkland, 67, of Avoca, died May 4, in Bentonville. She was born March 26, 1944, in Springdale, to Cecil and May Lawson Richardson.

She was a housewife.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James Kirkland; a granddaughter, Daisha Thomas;

and her mother, May Richardson.

Survivors include herfather, Cecil Richardson, of Highfill; one son, James Lynn Kirkland Jr. and his girlfriend, Mary Ford, of Avoca; two daughters, Cece Riggle and her husband, Bob, of Avoca; Kim Ross and her husband, Earl, of Avoca; two brothers, Sonny Richardson of Highfill; and Mahlon Richardson of Siloam Springs; four sisters, Merlene Richardson of Highfill; Earlene Pilgrim of Gentry; Betty Collins and her husband, Milford, of Hindsville; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Graveside services were held at 1 p.m. Thursday, May 5, at the Vlaylock Cemetery near Garfield, with Pastor Dale Qualls officiating.

Arrangements were under the direction of Rollins Funeral Home of Rogers.

Judy Ann Miller

Judy Ann Miller, 62, of Bentonville, died May 8 at Mercy Medical Center of Rogers. She was born Jan.

25, 1949, in Middlebury, Vt., to Julius Brown and Helen Parker Brown.

She was a resident of Modesto, Calif., for many years after residing in Pea Ridge. Miller was married June 21, 1971, to David Miller. She eventually relocated to Northwest Arkansas to be close to family.

She was preceded in death by her father, Julius Brown; brother, Daniel Thomas and sister, Susan Dykstra.

Survivors include her mother, Helen Volking of Bentonville; son, David Miller Jr. and wife Marry Ann of Turlock, Calif.; ex husband, David Miller Sr.

of Turlock; brother, John Thomas of Modesto; great grandchild, Samuel Millerof Turlock; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Memorial Services will be held at a later date in California.

Arrangements are with Benton County Memorial Park Funeral Home and Crematory of Rogers.
