New Meadowbrook Ext. Homemakers Club

President Ione Kauffeld opened the meeting with the Pledge of Allegiance.

Six members answered roll call by telling when each had their last mammogram.

NEBCO had a spaghetti dinner April 22.

There were no school helpers the last two weeks because of testing.

The county spring council was held at Cave Springs Church of Christ on April 29.

The theme was “buttons.” Each club needed to bring a button centerpiece.

The county is doing a 100-year scrapbook to go to the state meeting in June.

Each club should assemble pictures and clippings to be included in the book.

The cultural arts workshop was April 22, making a beaded watch.

The secretary’s report was read, and it was reported that the treasury is very low. A motion was made, seconded and passed that each member will donate $15 to replenish the treasury.

Selena Williams shared a reading about how her parents adjusted to down sizing and moving into senior housing.

After the meeting, members made Waster surprises for some of the residents at Autumn Place.

Pea Ridge Optimist Club

The Pea Ridge Optimist Club met at 6:30 p.m. April 21, at the Pea Ridge High School cafeteria. Sandy Lasater, president, conducted the meeting.

Ann Kraybill, from Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art, presented a slide show of the different stages of the construction of Crystal Bridges. Ann is the school program manager for the museum and will be coordinating with the schools for tours after January 2012.

The museum will open Nov. 11, 2011, and will be over 200,000 square feet.

Wanda Roe, a local artist and Pea Ridge’s first art teacher, talked about art and her students she had.

John McGee, current Pea Ridge art teacher for grades K-5, distributed copies of drawings from his students.

Joe Stewart, high school art teacher, talked about the work his students are doing.

The Dragons baseball team and their coaches presented Lasater with a picture of the team and a plaque the team won in the Springdale Rumble tournament April 3.

The next Optimist meeting will be 7 a.m. Thursday, May 5, in the high school media room/library. As always, meetings are open to the public and everyone is invited to attend.

Pea Ridge Historical Society

The Pea Ridge Historical Society met at 6 p.m. April 26 at the museum.

President Mary Durand opened the program. She introduced J.W. Jordan, who gave a presentation on the Lee family. J.W.’s mother was a Lee. He also had several photos of his ancestors and showed them on a powerpoint slide presentation. Janice (Lee) Bray and Charles Lee were visitors to the meeting. Their great grandfather, Ephraim Lee, was a brother to J.W.’s great grandfather, William Alexander Lee.

Girl Scout Troop 5053 requested help on who to interview for stories on Pea Ridge. J.W. made a motion for the Historical Society to participate with them on this project, motion was approved.

Beta Alpha president Karen Kitterman requested assistance on displaying exhibits during Summerfest, July 6, 7 and 8. J.W. made a motion for the Historical Society to participate with Beta Alpha on the exhibits, motion was approved.

Marcia read the minutes from the March meeting and they were approved.

Durand announced the annual egg roast will be held at 5 p.m. April 30 at the Prophets’ house. There will be a board meeting at 6:30 p.m.

May 17. All were reminded to bring wedding photos to the May 24 meeting.

The next meeting is set for 6 p.m. Tuesday, May 24, at the museum. Anyone interested in the history of the Pea Ridge area is invited to attend. The museum is open Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is free.
