— Village Art Club to fund scholarships

The Bella Vista Village Art Club spends thousands each year to fund students who are working toward degrees in the fine or applied arts. This year they are offing two new scholarships and wish to encouraging area seniors to apply. Each scholarship will consist of two payments of $750 per year, paid directly to the student’s college, for up to four years, as long as the students maintain eligibility.

The Village Art Club Scholarships are open to students in the Bentonville, Gravette and Pea Ridge school districts. Students must be graduating seniors of one of these public high schools or a graduating senior from a private or home based school located within these district boundaries.

Public school students can pick up an application from their school guidance office. Private or home school students may request a scholarship application be sent via e-mail or snail mail by e-mailing dustie@dustie.com. Deadlines for returning applications, either electronically or by regular mail (e-mail or call for address), is April 20, 2011. Private or home school students may request a scholarship application by visiting the web site mentioned above and clicking on the e-mail link on that page.

Farm Bureau

The Benton County Farm Bureau will again offer a $500 scholarship for members, children or grandchildren of Farm Bureau members in the county who are graduating this spring. One recipient will be selected from all applicants countywide. Other eligibility and terms of the scholarship are available. Deadline is April 15, 2011.

Dye Hards Gym

Dye Hards Gym & Principal Fitness Scholarship may be used at any college or university. Persons interested must return a completed scholarship form to Pea Ridge High School counselor Randi Jo Kelso by April 1.

Two scholarships - $500 each - will be awarded to a Pea Ridge senior.

Applicants will be anonymously judged by a team of people from the community.

Garfield Elementary

GARFIELD - Garfield Elementary P.T.O. is offering a Community Based Scholarship in the amount of $500 to a qualifying student. Students must meet the following criteria in order to apply:

◊Three years of attendance at Garfield Elementary

◊Attending an accredited college, university or vocational/technical school

Applications may be picked up at the PRHS, Heritage High School or Rogers High School counselor’s office or at Garfield Elementary School office. Scholarships must be received by April 15 to be considered.

Return the application to Garfield P.T.O. Scholarship Committee, Garfield Elementary School, P.O. Box 69, Garfield, AR 72732. All scholarship applications will be reviewed by the Garfield P.T.O. Scholarship Committee. All applicants will be notified of their outcome.

The scholarship will be presented to the selected student at the May Awards Assembly at the Garfield Elementary School. Scholarship money will be awarded to the student upon proof of registration at an accredited school.

AFS-USA offering study abroad scholarships

AFS-USA is proud to announce it is offering scholarships to study abroad in 2011 to high school students who live in Arkansas. Scholarships are for yearlong programs only and cover up to $4,000 of program costs.

These scholarships, offered through the AFS Arkansas Global Leaders Financial Aid Program, help make it possible for eligiblestudents to experience what it’s like to live in a country and culture completely different from their own, attend high school, learn or increase skills in a second language, make new friends and broaden their global perspective

Arkansas Community Foundation

LITTLE ROCK, Ark.

- Arkansas Community Foundation announced the availability of two privately funded scholarships for Arkansas students. One program provides scholarships to students who have battled cancer and another to students whose parent was killed in the line of duty.

The Arkansas Service Memorial Scholarship

The Arkansas Service Memorial Scholarship is available annually for students who have a parent who died in service to theirnation, state or community.

The awards are funded by income from the Arkansas Service Memorial Fund, an endowment fund created in the mid-80s largely through the fundraising efforts of Sheffield Nelson. Since 1984, income from the fund has provided 127 scholarships totaling over $155,000. Applications received by May 1, 2011, will be given priority.

The Ryan Mondy D.A.S.H. Memorial Scholarship

The Ryan Mondy D.A.S.H. Memorial Scholarship is presented annually to a student whose life has been touched by cancer. Recipients must have battled cancer themselves or must have a sibling who has been diagnosed with cancer. The scholarship was established by Andrea and Christopher Mondy in memory of their son, Ryan, who passed away from a rare form of cancer at the age of 7. The scholarship’s name isan acronym for one of Ryan’s favorite sayings: “Doing Anything Supportive Helps.” Applications must be postmarked by April 15.
