— What began as a routine traffic stop led to the confiscation of more than an ounce of marijuana, drug paraphernalia, $5,000 in cash and an arrest.

“This was a good find. It helps take someone off the streets who was apparently actively selling drugs,” Chief Tim Ledbetter said, adding that he applauds the diligence and thoroughness of the officer for following procedure andfinding the contraband.

Police stopped a vehicle driven by Somsack Aphayvong, 36, of Centerton, for speeding on Weston Street at 9:32 a.m. Wednesday, March 2.

While checking Aphayvong’s driving record, police discovered he had a suspended driver’s license.

A search of the truck led to the discovery of a green leafy substance believed to be marijuana and drug paraphernalia. A search of the driver led to the discovery of more than $5,000 in cash.

Aphayvong was arrested for possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession with intent to deliver. He was also citedfor driving on a suspended driver’s license and speeding.
