— Dr. Steven D. Kimbrough, Bentonville, showed fifth-grade students at Pea Ridge Intermediate School how to brush their teeth during a special presentation in the media center in honor of Children’s Dental Health month.

Aurora Hupp, fifth-grade student, held the model of teeth for her fellow students to see. Kimbrough identified the process of tooth decay as it relates to nutritional habits, as well as care of gums and teeth, importance of fluoride, risks of oral piercing and hazards of using tobacco products on oral health. He answered students’ questions and provided take home packets of dental hygiene materials (toothbrush, floss, toothpaste) for students. The fifth grade science teacher will continue the topic of importance of fluoride with an activity to demonstrate how fluoride protects teeth.
