Sorority sisters serve selflessly

— If there’s an event, organization or family in the community that needs help people know exactly who to turn to: the Beta Alpha Sorority.

These sisters specialize in philanthropic service to the community of Pea Ridge.

“The community often says, ‘We’ll just get Beta Alpha to do it,’” charter member Dorothy Williams said.

There are few facets of the community the sisters have not helped.

From sponsoring the Pea Ridge Fair to providing scholarships, the sorority sisters do it all and while having fun, Eula Landis said.

Though Williams hasbeen a charter member for 46 years, the sorority chapter was established in 1964.

Currently, there are 13 members of Beta Alpha, some of which are younger than the ladies who started 40 years ago.

“Since I’ve been in the charter we’ve lost sisters and added new ones,” Williams said. “Luckily, the younger ones can run around more than we can.”

The sorority works to serve the community, county and state.

“Anyway we can help people, we do it,” Williams said.

Not only does the sorority work to help the community, but they work to serve one another.

“We treat each other like we are sisters,” she said.

“We take care of one another and if anyone needs anything, we’re only a call away.”

Among the events the Beta Alpha Sorority sponsors are the annual Christmas parade, the annual Easter egg hunt and the senior Thanksgiving dinner.

The sorority also helps with organizations such as St. Jude Children’s Hospital and Restoration Village.

Beta Alpha believes there are always people who are in need and works to serve the community.

“God tells us to love our neighbors and the best way to love our neighbors is to help them,” Williams said.
