The Pea Ridge Graphic received a plaque from the National Newspaper Association when the Graphic was judged among the top three newspapers in the nation in the Freedom of Information category.

Earle Jines, publisher of the Graphic, traveled to Rochester, N.Y., to receive the award.

30 Years Ago July 1, 1981 Pea Ridge Country Times

A hit and run incident was reported to the Benton County Sheriff’s office by Bob White, Gateway. he said that sometime during the night his 1973 Cadillac, parked on his property, was hit on the left side causing approximately $250 damage. The vehicle which hit his car did not stop or report the accident.

Pea Ridge’s nerve center for fire, police and ambulance calls, for some 15 years or more, had been in the living room of Sisco’s at the Sisco Funeral Home.

A solution involving the moving of the base radio station to the home of City Marshal Loyd Pifer was reached by the Pea Ridge City Council when a special meeting was called to relocate the dispatch center. The action was made necessary at the reuest of Bill Sisco, who had manned the center in his home with his wife, Ginny, and son-inlaw Sam Spivey, filling-in when Bill was unavailable. The city paid $100 a month on a contract basis to handle dispatching of emergency fire and police calls and the police radio.

20 Years Ago June 27, 1991 The TIMES of Northeast Benton County

Pea Ridge School Board hired Michael Mason of Springdale to be the new principal of Pea Ridge Elementary School. He and his wife served as missionaries for nine years in France.

Mr. Mason earned his master’s degree in education at Memphis State University.

Pam Bolerjack graduated from Columbia Theological Seminary in Decatur, Ga., and was going to become the Rev. Bolerjack at an ordination service. She was the new pastor of Mt. Vernon Presbyterian Church.

Lt. Steven L. Webb, a pilot in Operation Desert Storm, come to Pea Ridge to visit his grandmother, Wanda Webb.

Pea Ridge Cub Scout Pack 26 attended the Razorback District Cub Scout Olympics in Springdale.

T.J. Rogers received a silver medal for overall performance in the Bear and Wolf Cub division. Will Rogers received a gold medal foroverall performance in the Webelos division. Jesse Noland and Bradley Easley earned points that contributed to a third place overall pack competition trophy.

Frank Rizzio was the their pack leader.

10 Years Ago June 27, 2001 The TIMES of Northeast Benton County

Pea Ridge Fire Chief Frank Rizzio announced a program of pre-planning and fire safety inspections had begun. The Fire Department was preparing a booklet of area businesses and homes which would include layouts of buildings, utility cutoffs, possible hazardous areas and materials and a contact person if a fire occurs at night.
