Summer reading program in full swing

Wednesday, June 22, 2011

As most of you know, Linda Whitaker, our librarian, has had some health issues for the past few months and I have been filling in for her at the library. I am enjoying the challenge but most of all I am enjoying meeting so many readers!

The library now has its own website - www.

pearidgecommunitylibrary.

org and we are on Facebook! We owe a big thanks to Alex Martinez of Soltel Networks, LLC for making this possible.

We have an answering machine on our telephone that will take messages when the library is closed. When you can’t get to the library to renew your books just do it over the phone or via email us at [email protected]. Please leave your name, library card number and the date your books are due.

Our Summer Reading Program for preschool through fifth-grade will run from July 5-21. A party will be held July 23 and prizes will be awarded to the children who read the most books in their grade levels. This year’s program is titled One World, Many Stories and registration forms may be picked up and filled out at the library.

The library will host a story hour at 11 a.m. each Thursday in July. Mrs. Heather Klever will be reading the children. Give us a call at451-8442 or send us an email and let us know if you have children who will attend.

New books are arriving almost weekly and several new volumes have been added to our large print section.

We have the latest editions of several popular authors so come by and check us out.

One of our library board members, Kristi Towe, has written book reviews on Kylie Brant’s, “Deadly Intent,” and Paul Christopher’s, “The Templar Conspiracy.” The reviews are posted on our website and we have both these titles in paperback.

A large number of donated books have been over the past few months. We are always happy to accept these donations and will provide the donor with a receipt fortax purposes. A book sale is planned for later this year.

Stop by the library, check out a few good books and hibernate under the air conditioning or under a shade tree.
