It’s not funny to lose humor

Wednesday, June 22, 2011

Every now and then, I lose something. Sometimes it’s my ambition or I can lose my temper. Sometimes my sense of direction or loyalty to a cause, but this week I thought sure I had lost my sense of humor. Nothing was funny, nothing struck me so ridiculous that I could chuckle. Maybe it was the heat, or stress of boredom.

But, then I saw a a squirrel make a wild jump from a moving tree limb to an electric light pole. He slid backward about three feet before he was able to grip tightly enough to stop the slide. But then, he lost that grip and slid backwards three more feet and continued on for about five times before he was able to leap sideways to the ground. Who would think I would be grateful to a squirrel for the chuckle and then outright laugh?

Now that I’ve found my sense of humor, I can go on with my daily routine of watching the clock, timing my trips to arrive places on time and to deliver them on time, then hurry up and wait. That’s what we grandmas and grandpas do best, but I am so thankful to be able to do it!

I never thought much about standing on a ladder while putting a tarp over a chicken pen. I had to get up and down a few times, but no problem. The next day, I realized my knees hadn’t taken kindly to the strain.

The second day after, my knees told me that my days on a ladder were over, unless I go for knee replacement, and at my age I’ll pass. A new hip maybe, some day,or again maybe not!

The Saturday morning Brightwater Men’s breakfast had 13 in attendance. They are a growing group.

Dottie Bledsoe took a trip to Des Moines, Iowa this week to visit an old friend.

Her daughter and a friend made this trip possible for her. We missed her Sunday, but so glad she could do that.
