Hunger relief

— Michael Smith, youth pastor at First Baptist Church, Pea Ridge, accepted a $1,500 check from state Representative Donna Hutchinson this week for the food pantry.

The money was from 2009 funds from the Arkansas Hunger Relief Alliance. Smith said anywhere from 100 to 120 people are served monthly through the food pantry and that much of the food is purchased through the Northwest Arkansas Food Bank and can be purchased less expensively than through a grocery store.

The food pantry is open from 1-4 p.m. on Mondays and from 9 a.m. to noon on Wednesdays and Thursdays. “This will provide a full pantry for about three months,” Smith said, adding that he is very grateful for Hutchinson’s assistance in getting the money.
