Daughters of American Revolution

The James Bright Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution gathered at the Museum of Native American Artifacts to celebrate Flag Day, June 14.

The group enjoyed Rex Hickox program on the History of the American Flag. The first flag of the United States was adopted by Congress, June 14, 1777,and on June 14, 1916, a proclamation was issued by President Woodrow Wilson calling for a national observance of Flag Day on June 14. In addition to the history of the flag, the group also learned U.S. flag etiquette and history about the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag.

Hickox is a veteran of the Korean War, the author of two books and is on theVeteran’s Council.

The DAR Chapter is collecting red, white and blue fabric for the nationwide program Quilts of Valor.

Guests included Osage District DAR Regent, Betsy Brummond, and Ozark Mountain Chapter DAR Regent, Marilyn Johnson.

The next Chapter meeting will be Sept. 12, at the Old Bentonville Train Station.
