The Garfield Church of Christ was vandalized.

Large rocks were reportedly hurled through the storm door at the front of the church, bursting the paneling in one part of the main door. The church had been through a remodeling program in which the building had been completely remodeled, and there was no vandalism insurance to cover the damages done.

Three young men riding in their pickup on county road 862 a half mile east of Garfield discovered the largely decomposed remains of a human body and called the Benton County Sheriff’s Office. The young men reported that they saw feet from the roadway about 25 feet south of the county road and south of U.S. Hwy. 62 near the railroad, in what is called Tick Hollow. When the Sheriff’s Office arrived on the scene they saw, and took pictures of the partially decomposed body, and saw evidences of it being a homicide from the scattering of tissues and evident bullet holes. They had suspicionsthat it might be a missing person from the Little Rock area.
