School plans site work

Wednesday, June 8, 2011

— Site work for the Intermediate School will begin immediately, according to school superintendent Mike Van Dyke and architect Steve Elliott.

Speaking to the School Board at a special meeting Thursday, June 2, Elliott said he failed to get the site plans to the city, but had met Thursday with “the city” - later defined as building official Tony Townsend, Mayor Jackie Crabtree and planner M.J. Hensley.

“We met today (June 2) ... Tuesday night (June 7) when the Planning Commission meets they’re going to act on our request to move forward,” Van Dyke told the board.

“The Planning Commission wants to approve the actual drainage ... what we’ve already bid is the site utility relocation and some of the roads which aren’t going to be done until the end of summer,” Elliott said, “but we bid it now to get the best asphalt price.”

“The mistake I made was in expediting them the site plan ... they’re on board with that. They’re going to approve it at the July meeting.

We’re not getting bids until the end of June ... it’s clicking right where we anticipate,” Elliott said.

“The main thing is getting the utilities moved while the kids are gone. That’s a no brainer,” board member Rick Webb said.

In other business, the board:

◊Accepted the resignation of Tiffany D. Redding and Kyle Pennington;

◊Approved the transfer of Jamie Bunting to high school special education;

◊Approved hiring James Rick Jones for junior girls basketball coach and science teacher, Jessica Hinton Woods to teach seventhgrade literacy and coach volleyball and Trent Loyd for head seventhgrade boys basketball coach, head junior boys basketball coach and assistant senior high boys basketball coach.
