Dirt Cake

From the kitchen of Makenzie Shirley Mother’s Day Cookbook, Pea Ridge Intermediate School

1 pkg. chocolate sandwich cookies

8 oz. cream cheese

4 Tbsp. butter, softened

1 c. powdered sugar

2 boxes instant vanilla pudding

12 oz. Cool Whip

1 pkg. plastic cups

1 bag gummy worms

Crush cookies in a plastic bag until it looks like dirt. Combine cream cheese, butter and powdered sugar until creamy; set aside.

Make the pudding according to directions on the box. Add pudding to cream cheese mixture and mix well, then fold in Cool Whip. Set out plastic cups, put a layer of Oreo on the bottom, then pudding mixture;

repeat layers until the cups are full.

Chill in refrigerator for 1 hr. and 45 min. Add gummy worms to the top and eat.

Chocolate Chip Cookie Bars

2 c. butter, softened

1 1/2 c. sugar

1 1/2 c. packed brown sugar

4 eggs

2 tsp. vanilla extract

1 tsp. water

4 1/2 c. all-purpose flour

2 tsp. baking soda

1 1/2 tsp. salt

3 c. semisweet chocolate chips

1 c. chopped walnuts

In a large mixing bowl, cream butter and sugars until light and fluffy. Beat in the eggs, vanilla and water.

Combine the flour, baking soda and salt in a separate bowl; gradually add to creamed mixture and mix well. Fold in chocolate chips and nuts.

Press into three 15- x 10- x 1-inch baking pans. Bake at 375° for 15-18 min. or until golden brown. Cool on wire racks. Cut into bars.
