— Residents of Garfield now have a place to cool down while the sun fights with a vengeance.

The Garfield Church of Christ has opened their doors as a cooling center for the community, providing snacks and water to people daily.

The cooling center is available daily from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Pastor Bobby Vaughn reassures the community that as long as the cooling center is needed, it will remain open.

“As long as temperatures are in the high 90s and triple digits,we’ll keep our doors open,” he said.

Vaughn’s goal is to provide an area for the community to be able to cool down in the summer heat and be taken care of.

“We hope to be able to help in anyway we possibly can,” he said.

“We just want to take care of our neighbors.”
