Fire hydrants to be tested the next few weeks

— Over the next several weeks, the Pea Ridge Fire Department will be conducting annual flow tests of the fire hydrant system, according to Fire Chief Frank Rizzio. As a result of this testing, water customersmay encounter discolored water through appliances, taps and commodes, due to sediment in water lines being disturbed during high flows.

While every effort is made to not cause excess turbulance in the water system, some is inevitable.

The sediment is not harmful to humans or pets, and is residual inside municipal water systems.

Annual flushing, flow testing and hydrant maintenance ensures readiness in an emergency, Rizzio said.
