Three ball teams from Pea Ridge placed top in their division. The first place Little League team was the Giants. The Red Birds placed first out of all the girl teams and first place Pee Wee team was the Dodgers.

Milk was $1.13 per gallon, large size cottage cheese was 41 cents and bread was 28 cents.

Charles Nowak, 24, was selected to be the new Pea Ridge football coach.

The Rev. Ralph Thiesse, pastor of Mt. Vernon Presbyterian Church, retired. The Presbytery of Arkansas approved his honorable retirement for medical reasons.

Twenty-nine Voluntary Christian Builders converged to begin construction of an addition to Twelve Corners Baptist Church.

Floyd Blackwell, superintendent of the Pea Ridge Water Department, asked customers to voluntarily conserve water to help assure an adequate supply.

He said the conservation request is the result of a peak demand crisis that was experienced by the Beaver Water District.

Pam McGaughy was Miss Pea Ridge 1991; her talent was singing. She also won the opportunity to use her talent in the Miss Decatur Barbecue and Miss Benton County contests.

Residents of Garfield gathered to dedicate the town’s new City Hall, which was donated to thecity by Garfield Baptist Church, which had occupied the building for years.

Twenty-one senior citizens of Pea Ridge met at the E.H. Building for a joint birthday party. The four who had birthdays were Myrtle Brandon, Loyd Miller, Florance Bolain and Mick Smith.

Amy Whitaker, daughter of Rick and Linda Whitaker, was crowned Miss Pea Ridge 2001 by Amitty Ricketts, Miss Pea Ridge 2000. Lindsay Kelly was crowned Jr. Miss Pea Ridge 2001 by Ashley Glass, Jr. Miss Pea Ridge2000.

Pea Ridge School District hired a full-time computer technician.

Todd “Showtime” Bloxham, 9, of Pea Ridge qualified to race his KX65cc motorcycle at the Grand National Championship in Ponca City, Okla. He finished in first place in a qualifying race to make it to Grand Nationals.

The Times won two first place awards in the Arkansas Press Association’s annual Better Newspaper News-Editorial Contest. Competing in the smaller weeklies category, The TIMES placed first in Coverage of Community and headline writing. The winning headline was “Nix celebrates six.”
