City sidewalks lead to school

PEA RIDGE — Sidewalks along streets leading to the schools may become a reality thanks to a grant to fund a portion of the project, said Mayor Jackie Crabtree.

The grant, applied for a year ago, was recently approved for $55,000 through the federal-aid Transportation Enhancement Program.

Sidewalks are planned along Hayden Road from West Pickens Street north to the City Park. Another stretch of sidewalk is proposed along West Pickens Street from Standing Oaks subdivision to Givens Subdivision, connecting both to the baseball and softball fields at Blackjack Corner.

Crabtree said city officials will consider which project to begin and whether to bid the project or do the work with city staff.

“We may be able to use inmate labor for some of it,” he said.
