A few of the Pea Ridge pageant winners were Mr.

Tiny Tot Gregg Mayfield, Miss Tiny Tot Linda Gail Strickland and Miss Pea Ridge Dawn Winterss Pea Ridge.

Two major fires of buildings located within the same neighborhood occurred within 25 hours of each other in Pea Ridge.

The structures and their contents were a total loss.

One structure was a barn and the other a house, both located off of Arkansas Hwy. 94.

30 Years Ago July 15, 1981

C.J. Readinger, fire chief for the Little Flock Volunteer Fire Department, submitted his resignation to the department and the City Council. The councilaccepted his resignation and thanked him for his service.

Garfield Mayor Dennis Mitchell and Recorder Jane Davis called off the regularly scheduled city council meeting because they had the flu.

Avoca Mayor Gary Blackburn announced at the Town Council meeting that he would be resigning from the council due to his transfer the the postmastership at Garfield.

One of the highlights of the 42nd annual Pea Ridge Community Fair was the parade with an emphasis on area veterans of Operation Desert Storm. Pat Patterson, co-chairman of the parade, suggested that veterans who will ride the float “just need to show up down there and jump aboard.”

The senior class of 1971, Pea Ridge High School, was having its 20th year class reunion. It was held at the Pea Ridge City Park pavilion. They had a potluck picnic, followed by games and visiting.

Three Northeast Benton County Fire Department volunteers were suspended from duty in connection with a fire that caused $15,000 in damages afterfireworks were launched into a Garfield couple’s garage. The NEBCO fire chief decided to suspend the firefighters after learning about the arrest of one of them, who lived in Garfield, with felony arson. The other two firemen may have been with him when it happened.

The Pea Ridge School Board considered raising the price of school lunches 25 cents across the board.

Benton County Judge Gary D. Black declared a state of emergency for all residents in the Lost Bridge water service area. A pump failure in the area was expected to leave approximately 320 households without water for at least 24 hours.
