After 24 years of bring the folks of Pea Ridge Country their mail, Eugene and Bonnie Keeling, of Rogers, retired. They were replaced by Eugene’s niece, Mrs. Patsy Townzen of Rogers.

Mark Howell, son of Mr.

and Mrs. Jim Howell of Pea Ridge was presented a trophy engraved “Best Player 1971” at the T-ball Al-Star game in Bentonville. He was selected by the coach of the opposing team.

The League of Women Voters of Benton County actively supported the city/county one-cent sales tax increase. Benton County was in severe financial distress due to increasing population, the loss of federal funds and to inflation.

James and Jeanne Howell of Pea Ridge purchased the Western Auto store in Rogers.

A safe Fourth of July in Pea Ridge was noted by City Marshal Loyd Pifer, who reported no concerted complaints of firecracker noise and no arrests over the weekend for shooting fireworks. He thanked the residents of the city for their cooperation in making the July 4 holiday a safe one.

People who planned to explode fireworks in the city limits of Pea Ridge for the Fourth of July might consider the possible consequences, legal and physical. Because fireworks were illegal, the fines started at $25 plus costs, and if the complaint came from a citizen, persons would also be charged with disturbing the peace.

The Pea Ridge City Council voted to pay $15,000 for a half-acre tract of land on which to build a water tower. The action came several months after the council voted to pay $50,000 to Federal Saving Bank for nearly three acres of land on which to build a water tower.

John Zolk was the new pastor of the Pea Ridge and Centerton United Methodist churches.

There was a ribbon cutting at the Pea Ridge Military Park for the reopening of the visitors centor, which was expanded and remodeled.

The plan to put a gun range in Pea Ridge was tabled at the Benton County Planning Board meeting.

The contestants for the Miss Pea Ridge Pageant were Jennifer Michelle Marlow, Larissa Ashley Palmore, Mollie Elizabeth Ragland, Ashley Dawn Riley, Ariel Dawn Tharp and Amy Colleen Whitaker.
