Eagle watching was exciting

— This week I went on a bird watching boat ride on Beaver Lake. We were looking for bald eagles. My uncle had told us about a pair of bald eagles he saw that had a nest on the lake ever year. We went out in the evening and right on the bank a bald eagle was sitting in a tall tree. It was amazing!

We were so close and it didn’t even fly away. Then I heard a noise. It sounded like a loud cry. We looked around and a baby bald eagle was on another tree!

It was just as big as the parent, but it didn’t have a white head.

I have done some research, and I found out that bald eagles usually have two to three babies. I also found out that they will use the same nesting area each year. The male and female eagles take turns caring for the babies and the parents mate for life. That means they stay together until one of them dies. The bald eagle lives for about 30 years.

It was a lot of fun to see our national bird. If you are on Beaver Lake this summer, be sure to watch for bald eagles!
