CARVER DAYS FESTIVITIES ANNOUNCED

DIAMOND, Mo. - The annual Carver Day Celebration will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, July 9, at George Washington Carver National Monument. The public is cordially invited to attend the 68th Carver Day anniversary to commemorate the life of George Washington Carver and the establishment of the national monument in his honor. Admission is free.

Special speakers this year include poet Marilyn Nelson and author of “Carver: A Life in Poems” and Dana Chandler, archivist, Tuskegee University. Musical performers include the Rev.

John Wilkins, gospel Blues singer and guitarist; Joe Becton, musician and living history performer; Sensational Wonders; Joyful Noise Community Choir; and area church choirs. Storyteller Carole Shelton will share African-American stories.

Activities are scheduled throughout the day, including storytelling, exhibitors, musical performers, guided tours, educational programs, kids activities, and much more. For information, call the park at 417-325-4151.
